Mario Brötz is the new head coach of the U23 team, which will begin its pre-season training for the Kreisliga A in a few days. The 35-year-old, who most recently spent six years as player-assistant coach for TuS Oberwinter in the Rheinland and Bezirksliga leagues, will be assisted by Sam Schüring as his co-trainer. Brötz, who also played for SG Ahrweiler/Bad Neuenahr in his playing days, stands for proactive possession football. "I've had contact with youth director Gerd Treffer for a long time, but we couldn't agree on a planned commitment as a youth coach. I'm all the more pleased to be involved in the very interesting U23 project," says Brötz, who, despite the primary goal of further developing the many young and talented players, wants to finish the upcoming season in the top third of the table.
"I think Mario and I complement each other very well and are on the same page in terms of personality and understanding of the game. I'm definitely looking forward to an interesting season," says Sam Schüring. In addition to introducing the new sporting leadership duo, Denis Schäfer (Sporting Director) referred to a strategic change that affects the entire club. "We want to offer young, talented players with strong character the opportunity to establish themselves in senior football and play their way into the focus of the first team. This approach should be taken into account in the future in the training of the junior department, more effectively than before," says Schäfer.
