Ahrweiler BC has embraced the motto "We are more than a club!" Under this slogan, those responsible want to address socially important issues off the field as well.
Due to the corona pandemic, the German Red Cross (DRK) is experiencing a sharp decline in blood donations and has therefore been calling for blood donations more strongly in recent weeks.
The board of Ahrweiler BC has heeded this call and has asked its players, members, and fans to donate blood. "We are a big, strong club with many healthy players. Let's help each other," said board member Aniko Schweigert. To give the campaign more media attention and thus motivate even more people to donate, the Lenné Schlösschen has also called for photos of blood donations to be posted on social media. For every picture, the Lenné Schlösschen will donate €10 to the club's youth department. "With over 700 members, a nice sum could come together in the best-case scenario, with which the club can make urgently needed purchases," said Schweigert. This campaign runs for all blood donation appointments in April.
The first appointment took place in Dernau on Thursday. The German Red Cross was enthusiastic about the blood donors of all ages who were willing to give their blood for others. "What a great initiative, please come to the next appointments too. It's so important to donate blood. Not just for others. It can happen to anyone."
We thank everyone who supported this initiative and hope that even more of the ABC family will follow our call and attend the next appointments. Our dream is that as many people as possible donate blood, and with every donor, money also flows into the youth department. "It didn't even hurt," smiles Julian Kusniesz, who is managing the ABC blood donation drive for his final project as an FSLer of the club.
