U17 MUST ACCEPT BITTER DEFEAT - MATCH AGAINST KOTTENHEIM ENDS 2:1

The U17 team of Ahrweiler BC suffered a painful 2-1 (1-1) defeat on Friday evening in a hard-fought match against JSG Vulkaneifel Kottenheim. It wasn't the Ahrweiler BC team's footballing skills that caused them to stumble. Rather, it was the fundamental basics of football that led to the first defeat of the season. "It was a real battle, and we didn't manage to adapt. We have to learn that," commented ABC coach Patrick Pöschmann.

In a heated encounter, the team lacked determination. As early as the first conceded goal, not enough pressure could be applied to the opposing winger with the ball. After his cross, the home team's central striker seized the opportunity and gave his team a 1-0 lead (14'). Defender Mathis Schmidgen (pictured) did equalize with a precise cross that dipped into the opponent's goal for a 1-1 score (34'), but the team failed to take the lead. Shortly after the equalizer, a promising chance to take the lead presented itself, but the decisive goal was not scored in the scramble in front of the Kottenheim goal.

After 52 minutes of play, a decisive mistake by an ABC defender led to the ball being played into the middle and into the feet of the opposing striker. This player seized the opportunity and scored Kottenheim's second goal, which decided the match. Coach Patrick Pöschmann objectively analyzed the game and acknowledged the opponent's fiercer style of play.

All eyes are now on the upcoming game against the second team of FC Rot-Weiß Koblenz on Saturday, the last matchday before the autumn break.
