++U17 LOSES 6-POINT GAME IN HEIMERSHEIM++

In a district league basement battle on matchday 17, the U17s of Ahrweiler BC were beaten 2-1 (2-0) by SGL Heimersheim on Friday evening in front of a fantastic crowd of about 150 spectators. They remain in the relegation zone for now, three points behind the first relegation spot.

"The team seems to be carrying a burden it couldn't shed," explained ABC coach Karl-Heinz Classen after the game. The team had a very decent start to the match, but after the first fifteen minutes, the hosts then entered derby mode and took the fight out of the visitors. Shortly before halftime, the "Blues" took advantage of individual errors in the "Reds'" defense and scored two goals through Elias Holzem (39') and Collin Mazocha (40'+2) to take a comfortable 2-0 lead into halftime.

The share of play in the second half largely belonged to the Classen eleven, but apart from the consolation goal by Elias Ensafi (63rd minute), following excellent groundwork by Max Matschall, the team was unable to achieve any further tangible success. In the end, it was not an undeserved victory for SGL Heimersheim, who have temporarily moved away from the relegation battle and towards the midfield. The situation is different for the U17s, who have lost all six league games so far in 2024. However, Classen also took positive aspects from the game: Jakob Forster from the U15 ranks earned top marks in the coach's opinion as the strongest player in the ABC jersey.

The next opportunity to earn points will be on Saturday, April 6th, when they play away in Gondershausen against JSG Hunsrück Mittelrhein.
