Leon Waldminghaus, Nils Habscheid, Paul Bermel and Christian Scheu are leaving Ahrweiler BC
A football club is more than the sum of its goals, wins, and standings. It's the personalities who shape a team – with their skills, attitudes, and journeys. Four of these personalities will be leaving Ahrweiler BC at the end of the 2024/2025 season. Their stories speak of reliability, development, experience, and scoring prowess. A look back at what remains – and what is now moving on.
Leon Waldminghaus – Goal Threat with Backbone
Leon Waldminghaus arrived, saw – and scored. 20 goals in 31 games speak volumes. But anyone who defines the midfielder solely by this number is missing the bigger picture. Because Waldminghaus, who moved to the Ahr valley from TuS Koblenz in the summer of 2024, was far more than just an offensive force. He was a mood-setter, an inspirer, a player of character. A player who recognizes space – on the field and in the team dynamic. His path now leads him back to Koblenz. They can be grateful there.
Nils Habscheid – The Silent Constant
Not every footballer seeks the spotlight – Nils Habscheid never needed it. 30 appearances, two goals: what sounds sober becomes understandable only when considering his role. The defensive midfielder, who joined in the summer of 2024 from SV RW Wittlich, was the foundation of ABC's playing style. Never loud, never pushy – but always present. He is not only leaving the club but also football, for now. It is a quiet departure – and therein lies his greatness.
Paul Bermel – Between Talent and Drive
Still young, yet already remarkably far along: Paul Bermel moved from TuS Koblenz's U19 to ABC in the summer of 2023 – bringing discipline, willingness to learn, and versatility with him. Whether as a center-back or in central midfield: Bermel demonstrated that development is not just a matter of talent, but of desire. His next chapter is FV Engers – Oberliga instead of Rheinlandliga. A logical step. One with perspective.
Christian Scheu – Experience in the Service of Stability
There are winter transfers that seem like well-planned reinforcements. Christian Scheu was one of them. Arriving in January 2024 from FC Metternich, he brought calmness, maturity, and defensive order. In 30 matches this season, 44 in total for the ABC club, he was one of the reliable pillars. That his only goal came in the very last game almost has a symbolic quality: a conclusion, delivered with style. He is now moving to SG 2000 Mülheim-Kärlich. He will be missed there too, when he eventually leaves.
A silent curtain – but no end
Departures in soccer are rarely final – but always significant. The stories of Waldminghaus, Habscheid, Bermel, and Scheu tell of soccer as a phase of life. They don't end abruptly, but rather continue – on other fields, in other roles. Ahrweiler BC looks back with gratitude and wishes: See you soon, perhaps.
