Following the unfortunate last-minute defeat against SG Maifeld on the second-to-last matchday, the U23 team of Ahrweiler BC showed a strong recovery in the fourth round of the Kreisliga A on Friday evening. During their away game on the new turf field in Waldorf, the team coached by Ricardo Ribeiro and Tobias Roth gave SG Vinxtbachtal no chance, celebrating a clear 7-0 away victory.
From the start, the red-whites controlled the game and put the home team under pressure early on. Only their finishing failed to secure a more significant halftime lead. Thus, only Chadi Atwi's goal in the 8th minute marked the 1-0 halftime score. "The pitch was really top-notch, we could move the ball around – that was a decisive factor today," praised captain Finn Götte the conditions.
After changing sides, the U23 team really picked up the pace. Within a few minutes, an offensive storm broke over the tenth-placed team. With impressive combination play and a high tempo, the guests increased the score to 7-0, underscoring their league ambitions.
With their third victory of the season, the U23 team moves up to second place in the standings with nine points. More important than the snapshot in time, however, is that the team impressively bounced back after their previous setback – and that despite numerous absences. The next matchday brings the city derby against SGL Heimersheim. "An underdog role that suits us," said Götte confidently.
