Ahrweiler BC successfully kicked off the 2025/2026 season with a 3-0 (1-0) away victory at VfB Wissen. In front of approximately 400 spectators, the team of Mike Wunderlich and Kevin Pires-Rodrigues showed a composed performance after a nervous start.
The hosts made an early impact, but ABC goalkeeper Niklas Fachinger prevented a deficit in the 2nd minute with a strong save. After that, the district town team, also formed in a 4-4-2, found their rhythm better. Chances from René Ebersbach with a header, Markus Pazurek from close range, and Nam-Ju Lee with a shot just wide went unused at first. It wasn't until the 43rd minute that newcomer Thomal Idel scored the deserved lead with a precise long-range shot under the crossbar.
After the substitution, ABC briefly came under pressure. Sloppy passes and coordination problems allowed VfB opportunities to equalize – a phase in which luck was also on the visitors' side. From the 60th minute onwards, the game stabilized, Ahrweiler regained control and created several chances, scoring through Mohannad Saed to make it 0-2 (64th minute), sealing the win. The fast-rising star of the last half-season took advantage of the chance and scored the rebound after Lee had previously failed to beat Wissen's goalkeeper Lukas Litschel.
In the final minute, top scorer Almir Porca took advantage of a botched clearance attempt by the Wissen defense and confidently scored the final goal. "Overall, significantly more light than shadow, but also a clear indication of what we still need to work on," summarized Wunderlich.
For their home opener, the ABC will host SG 99 Andernach on Friday at 7:30 PM in the Apollinaris Stadium.
