Ahrweiler BC celebrated their third win on the third matchday of the Rheinlandliga – but the 2-1 victory at FC Bitburg was hard-earned. The visitors dominated the early stages, controlling the ball and their opponents. Consequently, Markus Pazurek put ABC in the lead in the 25th minute with a sensational long-range shot from just under 30 meters. A goal that was worthy of the gallery – but paradoxically paralyzed the Red-Whites' game. Suddenly, unforced errors piled up, and their structure was lost. Bitburg gratefully accepted the invitation: Simon Floß scored the equalizer after a buildup by Giorgio Mourad (33rd).
After the break, Ahrweiler presented itself as more stable again. Defensively, the team hardly allowed anything anymore, but in their attacking play, they lacked precision and composure. Only a remarkable combination involving Almir Porca and Nam-Ju Lee led to the renewed lead: Mohannad Saed scored in the 65th minute to make it 2-1. In the final phase, numerous counter-attacking opportunities arose, which ABC, however, rushed and missed.
It remained exciting until stoppage time. In the eighth minute of overtime, Bitburg had a great chance to equalize, but the guests' defensive bulwark held. "These are the games you have to win if you want to stay at the top," said coach Mike Wunderlich, relieved. With nine points from three games, the start is perfect, even if the performance was not convincing in all phases. Bitburg remains in the midfield of the table with four points.
The ABC's next opponent on Sunday is FV Hunsrückhöhe.
