On Sunday, the Ahrweiler BC U17 team played their first test match of the year. In sunny winter football weather, U15 goalkeeper Henry Ritzdorf celebrated his debut with the older youth team.
It was evident from the beginning of the match that FC Hennef's status as favorites was justified. Coach Pöschmann's team had to work defensively against the ball for the entire duration of the game, with only a few exceptions, and defend against the opponents' strong offensive performance. Nevertheless, the Mittelrheinliga team managed to win the match 7-1, primarily through set pieces.
ABC had only a few promising offensive plays, one of which Bankin Rashid converted with a spectacular goal from 16 meters. It remained the only goal for the district capital's team. Henry Ritzdorf stood out with a very good performance as the goalkeeper for Ahrweiler BC. Despite conceding seven goals, he did a great job and prevented a double-digit defeat with many saves.
However, the team is not letting the result get them down. Coach Pöschmann said after the game: "We must honestly acknowledge that the opponent was superior to us today," but the game also helped to identify problems in passing and positioning during set pieces, and they now have the opportunity to fix these problems before the season's second half kicks off on February 21, 2024, against JSG Moseltal.
