And there it is: D III’s first win of the season. Over the weekend, ABC’s young players defeated SG Westum II 2–1 (0–0). A solid team effort and an unwavering determination to win were the keys to this victory, which was especially important for the boys’ morale.
Right from the start, a fast-paced and entertaining match unfolded on the artificial turf field in Westum. However, the first half lacked that certain something, so the teams went into halftime with the score tied at 0–0.
In the second half, it was Gabriel Alchanaa who put his team ahead 1–0 in the 35th minute. After the opposing team equalized (40'), Ibrahim Othmann scored to make it 2–1 (46')—which remained the final score, although both teams had several more chances to score. “We’ve already seen in recent weeks that the team has improved. Today, we were determined to secure our first three points. We succeeded in doing that. However, a draw would have been a fair result given the course of the game,” said D III coach Alexander Blauhut.
This coming Sunday, the team will face second-place JSG Brohl, to whom they lost the first leg 0–12.
