After the fifth and penultimate matchday of the D-Junior Kreisklasse, the D III team of Ahrweiler BC, coached by Moritz and Christopher Feit, has taken over the top spot in the league. Last Saturday, the away team won 5-2 (2-0) against JSG Nickenich II and is now at the top with twelve points – two points ahead of the youth team of TuS Mayen, which currently has ten points.
What might have seemed like a clear final result turned into a real challenge on the artificial turf in Eich. The young ABC players had to give it their all to prevail against a committed host team. It became particularly exciting again in the final phase: Nickenich managed to narrow the lead to 3-2 at one point, before Gabriel Alchanaa, with his second goal, and Olsi Zogaj, who scored a hat-trick, sealed the victory.
The decision for the league championship will be made on June 7th: The D III team will host JSG Unterahr, who are third in the standings, in a home game, while TuS Mayen will travel to face bottom-of-the-table TuS Hausen in a derby.
