On Friday evening, the Ahrweiler BC U10 team had every reason to pat themselves on the back. Coach Sarah Preussner and assistant coach Dennis Preussner, as well as their protégés, could be proud of their performance. With a 2-1 victory on the hard court in Rieden against second-placed JSG Volkesfeld, the team capped off the final matchday of the Kreisklasse. The goals were scored by Deon Ibrahimi and Eris Zogaj in a game that started with challenges but ultimately became the best match of the season.
"We were focused from the start and played together excellently as a team. The defense in particular was absolutely brilliant and well-organized today," praised Sarah Preußner after the game. This performance is all the more remarkable as the coaching staff had to contend with several absences before the match.
With the victory, the U10 team finished the season tied with the youth teams from Volkesfeld and Bad Breisig in second place in the standings. The decision on who secures the last qualifying spot for the performance league, which starts in the spring, will be made in a rapid-fire tournament against the competition. However, regardless of the outcome of this tournament, there is only positive news to report about the team's development.
The team has made great progress since the start of the season. The strong finish in the league, in particular, shows continuous improvement. "This is definitely not the same team as in the summer," emphasized Sarah Preußner, pointing out in this context that her protégés earned 6 points in the first half of the season and 12 points in the second half.
This development is a ray of hope for committed youth football at the district capital club – on and off the field. In an overall sportingly difficult first half of the season for the youth department of Ahrweiler BC, the U11 sends a positive signal and shows what can be achieved through commitment and team spirit.
