Coming and going, ACL tear, and oldies with a tournament victory
A surreal 2020 is behind us. The pandemic changed all our lives - whether in private or professional life. We had to change our behaviors, and terms such as face masks, in-person classes, or quarantine, all common terms by now, were added to our vocabulary. At the beginning of the year, the world still seemed to be in order. Corona was far away and, for most people, known only as a beer-like beverage anyway. At the start of the year, the biggest hassle was actually the "Bon-Pflicht" (requirement to keep receipts).
The first team's training camp got off to a disastrous start. Goalkeeper Alex Gorr suffered a torn cruciate ligament right at the beginning. Marcel Gehrlein was signed as a strong alternative for him. In general, the personnel merry-go-round at the Rhineland League club picked up considerable speed in the first few weeks of the new year. In addition to Gehrlein (Bad Honnef), Kenan Sehic (Mülheim-Kärlich II), Finn Hennerkes (Bad Honnef), and Kaan Öztürk (unattached) also moved to the Rhineland League club. The summer signings Joachim Akwapay, Rene Ebersbach, and Yaschar Hayit, on the other hand, used the winter transfer period to leave the club. At the same time, key players Marco Liersch, Almir Porca, Furkan Kalin, and Yannick Schweigert announced their departure for the summer. All winter signings have already left the club or are moving in the current transfer period. Things went better for the U23 team, which had been hit hard by personnel shortages until then, and they were able to present Leo Welter (Oberwinter) as a new signing. He is currently a key player and a very important piece of the puzzle for the third-placed team in the Kreisliga A.
In addition to the two coaching teams of the first team and the U23, Sebastian Sonntag, Finn Götte, and Paul Gemein also extended their contracts ahead of schedule, beyond the summer.
While most of the youth teams were very successful on the indoor courts, the first new coach for the following season 2020/2021 could also be presented with the A-juniors coach Jeffrey Yankey. The Old Boys II also celebrated success indoors, winning an internationally attended indoor tournament in Sinzig.
