The final match of the Rhineland League preliminary round was of no sporting significance for both the host U13 team of Ahrweiler BC and FSV Trier-Tarforst. Even before kick-off on Saturday afternoon, it was clear that the "Bachwuchskicker" from the Ahrtal had already qualified for the championship round, while the opponent from the Trier heights district would have to continue the season in the ranking round.
Both teams struggled with personnel issues, starting with only one player on the bench each. This didn't stop the 12- to 13-year-old ball artists from engaging in a lively back-and-forth from the start of the game – at least for the first 30 minutes. The visitors from the Mosel had clearly created more scoring opportunities by halftime, with the score at 0:0, but were repeatedly thwarted by the strong ABC goalkeeper Philipp Sahl. 🧤
With the kickoff for the second 30 minutes, ABC grew stronger and created a wealth of scoring opportunities. In addition to hitting the woodwork three times, Leon Bertram (47', 51') and Jonas Printzen (60') scored goals in what was ultimately a deserved 3-0 victory. ⚽🎉
The ABC U13 team takes six points from the preliminary round into the championship round, starting there in fourth place with a game against the equally ranked competitor, TuS Koblenz.
