On Monday evening, the U19 team of Ahrweiler BC suffered a 1:2 home defeat against SG Mülheim-Kärlich in the Rheinlandliga. After a successful start to the season with an opening victory followed by two away losses, the team coached by Maxwell Lunga and Rainard Schulz wanted to get back on the winning track—and presented themselves as significantly improved, at least in the first half.
Despite the early visiting goal by Ben Schreuders (10th), the young ABC players remained unfazed. Max Matschall already had the equalizer on his foot shortly after, but narrowly missed. In the 31st minute, it was Finn Patschula (symbolic photo) who, following good preliminary work, deliberately placed the ball in the net to establish the well-deserved 1:1 halftime score.
After switching sides, however, the picture changed. The guests from Mülheim-Kärlich increasingly took control, while the ABC youngsters had difficulty freeing themselves from their own half and finding a constructive way into their offensive game. The logical consequence followed in the 82nd minute: substitute Julian Anheier scored after a fine attacking move to restore the lead for the guests, led by head coach Markus Mannebach.
Unfortunately, it remained a 1:2 from the perspective of the hosts. Viewed over 90 minutes, a deserved victory for SG Mülheim-Kärlich. Nevertheless, the performance in the first half provided reason for optimism. Next Saturday, Ahrweiler BC will continue with an away match against JFV Hunsrückhöhe Morbach, who also recently suffered two defeats.
