Kicking is happening again at the Apollinaris Stadium grounds.
It was just a local league game between the E III juniors of Ahrweiler BC and SGL Heimersheim. But much, much more happened on the central pitch at the Apollinaris Stadium early Friday evening. It was the first football match on the grounds since the flood disaster of July 14-15, 2021. Just one day prior, the pitch had received positive approval from the responsible authority. For Ahrweiler BC, SC 13 Bad Neuenahr, HTC Bad Neuenahr, and SG Bachem/Walporzheim, it signifies a return to normalcy—after almost 24 months.
Oh yes, there was also playing. In the duel between the two last-placed teams, the boys from Ahrweiler BC won 4-1 and were able to celebrate their first victory of the season. Certainly one or two goals too many, but not undeserved. Leon Haxihu (2), Fabio Lemling, and Qays Yousef scored for the Boys in Red.
