SUCCESSFUL PREMIERE: RIBEIRO/ROTH ELF SCORES AT SEASON START

The U23 team of Ahrweiler BC started the new Kreisliga season with a hard-fought 3-2 (1-1) home victory against DJK Plaidt. The Rheinlandliga reserve team initially struggled in the competitive debut of the new coaching duo Ricardo Ribeiro and Tobias Roth – especially in the opening fifteen minutes, pace and precision were lacking.

The guests from Plaidt started more bravely, were called offside once early on, and tested ABC keeper Hakan Bakir with a long-range shot. In the 25th minute, he was helpless against the deflected 20-meter shot from Oliver Pung. The home team was lucky shortly thereafter when Plaidt hit the post. Only the equalizer by Aron Seck after strong groundwork by Luca Galdino (37th) brought ABC more into the game. It went into halftime at 1-1.

Ribeiro's speech had an effect: the home team now acted more quickly and purposefully. Roth narrowly missed, before Seck scored again to take a 2-1 (58') lead. At the latest, after Elvedin Hamza's 3-1 (87') - he took advantage of a misunderstanding in the Plaidt defense - the game seemed decided. However, in stoppage time, Plaidt reduced the deficit to 3-2 before referee David Ummen blew the final whistle immediately afterwards.

"Got off to a difficult start, but then got into the groove – a deserved win in the end," Ribeiro summed up. The next opponent is SG Ettringen, who started with a 9-0 victory in Dernau.
