With their fifth win of the season on the first matchday of the second half of the season, the U11 team of Ahrweiler BC was able to solidify their top position in the performance league and extend their lead over third-placed TuS Oberwinter. After a 6-0 (2-0) home victory on Friday against JSG Zissen, the team managed by Thomas Lorenz and Michael Hildebrandt currently has a 3-point lead over their closest competitor, Grafschafter JSG.
Even though the technically skilled guests repeatedly launched dangerous counter-attacks, the junior players from the district town were the dominant team. Early goals from Benjamin Faltin (3', photo) and Louis Kleiss (12') put the young ABClers in the lead, and from then on, there was little doubt about the winner of the match.
Especially in the second half, promising chances in offense increased, and the team rewarded themselves for adhering to head coach Thomas Lorenz's game plan with further goals from Marian Herschbach (32', 50'), Benjamin Faltin (40'), and Cihan Dalmus (42').
This coming weekend will see the summit meeting against the Combined Counties team – a match that could potentially lead to a decisive victory in the league championship.
