For the first time in what feels like an eternity, the U12 team of Ahrweiler BC has left the relegation zone of the Bezirksliga. The younger D-Juniors team defeated the guests from FC Rot-Weiß Koblenz 5-4 (2-3) on Saturday in the 21st round match and moved past the boys from the red-white campus at Deutsches Eck in the standings. The team coached by Danny Werner and Detlef Kleiss is currently in eighth place.
Coach Werner after the match: "We have it back in our own hands again and were able to come back from a two-goal deficit today with a lot of energy and belief in our own strengths."
Very early on, after just fifteen minutes, the young footballers from the Ahr valley were trailing 1-3, before the team managed to focus on their own strengths. Elijah Eguavoen, who had already scored the equalizer to make it 1-1, was also responsible for the goal that brought them within one, making the halftime score 2-3. And the brace scorer continued. His free kick from 13 meters out, from a central position, rang into the bottom corner after 33 minutes of play, for a provisional 3-3 draw.
Earlier, the young ABC players had luck on their side when Koblenz hit the crossbar. Again, a set piece, the second ball after a corner kick, led to ABC taking the lead for the first time. Scorer: Orestis Kasa. 42 minutes had been played when the powerfully shooting Cihan Dalmus broke through in the box and extended the lead to 5:3.
In the final phase, hat-trick scorer Elijah Eguavoen proved to be a resolute and effective defender in the final sprint of FC RW Koblenz, which, however, only resulted in the consolation goal to make it 5-4 (49th minute).
A strong team performance, with an outstanding Elijah Eguavoen, gave the team a much better starting position for the final sprint of the season. On Wednesday, they face league leaders TuS Koblenz II, not for points, but for a spot in the quarter-finals of the Rheinlandpokal. On Saturday, the matchday 22 game is against sixth-placed JSG Mosel-Hunsrück.
