Last weekend, the Ahrweiler BC U19 team concluded their test match series with mixed results. Against the relegated Middle Rhine League team JFV Siebengebirge, the protégés of Max Lunga and Rainard Schulz achieved a 2-1 away victory. After trailing at halftime, Julian Tajkoski (60th minute) and Noah Weidenbach in stoppage time turned the game around – a late display of resilience.
However, only 24 hours later, the team revealed deficits. In front of a home crowd against JSG Erft – also a district league team like Siebengebirgen – the oldest ABC youth team struggled defensively early on. The team was already trailing 1:3 at halftime, and in the end, the score was 2:6. A converted penalty by Peter Boeder (photo: on the ball) was merely a cosmetic improvement to the score. In the first half, Elias Holzem scored the goal for 1:3. While the victory on Saturday offered hope for a stable start to the season, the clear defeat the following day serves as a warning. Nevertheless, those responsible are looking optimistically towards the league start. Next Saturday, it gets serious: for the Rhinelandliga opener, the U19 will host FC Metternich.
