Kreisliga A, Matchday 5: Ahrweiler BC U23 – SGL Heimersheim 6:2 (2:1)
A fiery derby, 350 spectators, eight goals – Ahrweiler BC's U23 team demonstrated its offensive strength on Saturday evening in their home game against SGL Heimersheim and took over the top spot with a 6-2 victory. Level on points (12 each) with SG Bad Breisig and FC Plaidt, the team managed by Ricardo Ribeiro and Tobias Roth is currently at the top.
Before the kick-off, the situation was clear: second place against fourth place, excitement guaranteed. And the numerous spectators were not disappointed.
First half: Chances and goals on both sides
The guests got off to a better start, while the Rheinlandliga reserve team took ten minutes to find their rhythm. But then ABC landed the first blows: Michel Wagneder finished off a through ball in the 12th minute to take the lead. Heimersheim, however, struck back – after a corner, the referee awarded a penalty. Ivan Bossauer converted confidently to make it 1-1 (34th). Shortly before halftime, Chadi Atwi again capitalized on a clever pass into the final third and put the U23 team 2-1 ahead (43rd).
Second half: ABC turns it up
After the restart, the same pattern emerged: Ribeiro's team needed about ten minutes to find their rhythm again, and in this phase conceded the 2:2 equalizer by Peter van Weenen (53rd minute). But instead of faltering, the U23 team then showed character and dominance. Faruk Tunc scored from distance to take the lead again (3:2). In the 68th minute, Armin Karic sealed the decisive blow with a fine chip over SGL keeper Jan Welling after an attack down the right flank, making it 4:2.
Heimersheim could not increase their lead, while the hosts added to theirs once more: Wagneder completed his brace with his second goal from close range (82nd minute), before Luca Galdino (symbol photo) sealed the final 6-2 score in the 89th minute.
Coach Ricardo Ribeiro spoke of a "heated, but mostly fair derby" that his team deservedly won in the end: "We struggled to get into the game, but after the initial phases in both halves, we were the better team. The result is perhaps a bit too high and doesn't reflect Heimersheim's performance, but the win is ultimately okay."
One downside: Isolated unpleasant heckling came from the stands. Ribeiro had clear words: "Such remarks have no place on the soccer field or anywhere else. Simply shut your mouth – or stay home."
Outlook
With their fourth win of the season, the ABC U23 team takes over the top spot in the standings. Next weekend, they face an away game against SV Remagen, who currently have no points.
