++ Tough Fight for District League Team - Ahrweiler BC Advances to Round Three ++

Ahrweiler BC advances to the third round of the Rheinlandpokal. The team coached by Mike Wunderlich and Kevin-Pires Rodrigues secured a 2-0 (0-0) victory against district league team SV Weitersburg on Wednesday evening. The favorite struggled for a long time and needed set pieces to set the course for victory.

With five changes to the starting lineup compared to the last league match in Bitburg, the visitors initially lacked rhythm and determination. Weitersburg sensed its chance and had a great opportunity to take the lead in the 25th minute when a counter-attack hit the post. The ABC also created decent chances before the break but remained too harmless overall. "That wasn't the pace we're used to from the league," Wunderlich later lamented.

After the change of sides, the Rheinlandliga team noticeably improved. Ahrweiler took control after an hour of play and created several good chances. In the middle of their dominant phase, keeper David Weidner, who was making his season debut after an injury, had to make a strong save. However, in the final phase, the favorite got serious.

Two free-kick crosses made the difference: Markus Pazurek (75th minute) headed in the opening goal after a cross from Thomas Idel, and in stoppage time, Tobias Reuter (90th+3 minute) sealed the deal with a header – Pazurek had taken the free-kick. Both goal scorers had come off the bench earlier.

"In the end, it was all about reaching the next round. We managed that," concluded Wunderlich. For the ABC, the focus now shifts to the tough league duel against FV Hunsrückhöhe on Sunday (2:30 PM).
