Despite the 2:4 (1:2) home defeat against the strong JSG Maifeld-Elztal on the first matchday of the D Juniors performance league, our U12 received plenty of praise and recognition after the game on Friday evening.
The guests, comprised almost entirely of older-year players with one exception, and boasting an impressive record of 10 wins in 10 games during the past fall season, challenged our young talents from the outset. In the second half, after great groundwork by Felix Schlebusch, Lasse Claesgens scored what was at times a deserved equalizer to make it 2-2. Our young talents bravely held their own against the physically stronger Maifeld team with skillful play. In the end, however, the visiting team triumphed with two more goals from their exceptional striker Farzin. Despite the defeat, which was deserved given the goal-scoring chances on both sides, it was a successful start to the performance league.
