The jubilation among the B-juniors on Saturday evening was tremendous, as with the last scene of the game, Thomas Dressler and Lars Steinbüchel's team managed to score a more than deserved equalizer on matchday 7 of the Rheinlandliga in their away game against Sportfreunde Eisbachtal II. But before that, with a 0-2 halftime lead, the ABC youngsters missed the opportunity to set themselves on course for their third win of the season.
Tobias Binder gave his team an early 1-0 lead (9') after a beautiful combination play involving Ilja Sihvart and Joel Zimmermann, with a shot into the bottom-left corner. The youth players from the Ahr Valley were eager to make up for lost points from the previous matchday, when they squandered a 2-0 lead against FC Metternich, ultimately drawing 2-2. The squad held their own physically against the Regional League reserve team of the Eisbären and extended their lead to 2-0 after 31 minutes. Erfan Khodai scored from 25 meters into the top-left corner. The first half ended with this seemingly comfortable lead, during which the hosts created hardly any noteworthy scoring opportunities.
The trauma of giving up a 2-0 lead, which the boys experienced the previous week in the final phase of the Metternich match, befell the team on the artificial turf in Nentershausen this time immediately after halftime. The double strike in the 44th and 46th minutes was even followed by the hosts taking a 3-2 lead after 66 minutes. A goal that was foreshadowed. Eisbachtal II was significantly better in the game than before halftime. In the final phase, Thomas Dressler demanded a total offensive from his team. Thus, it was goalkeeper Philip Schmidgen who let a 30-meter free kick sail into the box in the fifth minute of stoppage time. Jannis Weinitschke, who had been substituted in the 46th minute, was on hand after the round playing object was deflected and seized the opportunity for a not undeserved, but luckily timed, equalizer. Thus, an overall very turbulent match, accompanied by much external noise, ended in a draw, with both teams leaving two points behind.
The ABC juniors remain in sixth place in the standings and, like their next opponent SC Bendorf-Sayn, have 9 points. Kick-off against the fifth-placed team is on Saturday at 3:00 PM in Meckenheim Ersdorf.
