With a 1-4 (1-1) defeat at SV Untermosel, a bitter district league season came to an end for the U23 on Saturday, finishing in 15th place and relegated after only one season. Not a debacle, but a symbolic conclusion to a year in which too little simply came together. Bartek Metza managed to equalize shortly before halftime – a brief glimmer of hope that quickly faded in the second half.
This season is taking its final toll. Due to a lack of personnel, even Sporting Director Aldin Sukic had to take the field himself from the 85th minute onwards. His words after the final whistle were as honest as they were relieved: "Thank God it's over."
In the end, there is the bitter but deserved relegation. Yet, despite all the disappointment, new hope is already growing: a new beginning is imminent.
New team. New goals. New courage.
