Ahrweiler BC kicked off their preparations on Thursday evening with a 2-0 friendly victory against district league champions and league rivals SV Eintracht Mendig. In the first half, the visitors had quite a few good goal-scoring opportunities, but ABC keeper Niklas Fachinger made strong saves.
After the change of sides, Mike Wunderlich's team – he celebrated his debut on the bench of the district capital club – took control. Tobias Reuter scored the opener in the 62nd minute after work by Markus Pazurek, before Ümit Kuzu made it 2-0 six minutes later from the penalty spot. Thomas Idel had previously been fouled in the penalty area. Despite many substitutions, ABC offered a pleasing performance, but at this debut match with new coaches and numerous new signings in front of a home crowd, the focus was on gathering insights.
The game continues next Wednesday at SV Oberzissen. Kick-off is at 7:30 PM.
