On the second matchday of the C-Junior Rhineland League intermediate round, the U15 team of Ahrweiler BC and JSG Remagen faced each other on Tuesday evening. In a highly anticipated local derby on the central pitch in Bad Neuenahr, the two teams engaged in a thrilling duel, at the end of which ABC emerged as the 2-1 (0-1) winner.
The opening phase belonged to the guests from Remagen, who took a 0-1 lead in the 10th minute of play with a goal from Lionel Daoud. The ABC, which featured three players from the younger U14 district league squad – goalkeeper Kai Wenzel, Simon Gros, and Paul Curth – struggled in the first half but found their rhythm better towards the end. In the 34th minute, Lorian Diabi was fouled in the penalty area, and the referee awarded a penalty kick. However, David Lorca hit the crossbar with his penalty, and so the youth team from the county town remained narrowly behind.
"We actually struggled to get into the game at the beginning. However, in the second half, we managed to fully concentrate on our strengths and play the game according to our system. I am very proud of our team's performance and especially of the team's mentality, which was so important in the second half and therefore decisive for the game," said U15 coach Oliver Johann Ewy.
In the second half, the young Ahrweiler BC footballers showed commitment and pushed for the equalizer. However, Lady Luck favored them when Remagen only hit the crossbar in the 41st minute. The pressure on the Remagen goal intensified, and Tim Dahm scored the equalizer in the 47th minute with a long-range shot from 19 meters. The decisive turning point came from Gulio Cristofalo in the 59th minute. With a precise assist to Luca Esper, who was as diligent and eager to run as ever, he scored the 2:1 from close range. Despite Remagen's persistent attempts to equalize, the Ahrweiler BC defense proved solid. After the fifth minute of stoppage time had elapsed, the victory in the local derby was sealed.
With this success, Ahrweiler BC solidifies its position in the Rheinlandliga group and looks confidently towards the rest of the season. Both teams have good chances of staying in the league, with seven and six points respectively ahead of the relegation zone.
Congratulations to the team and head coach Oliver Johann Ewy! 🔴⚪️💪
