Ahrweiler BC has found a new head coach for their U19 team, and it's quite a coup: Maxwell Lunga, most recently responsible for FC Hennef's U19 team in the DFB Youth League, will take over the reins of the district capital club's oldest junior team starting next season. The 61-year-old A-license holder succeeds Timo Uhlendahl, who is moving to the youth department of Bonner SC.
With Lunga, ABC not only gets a recognized expert but a true connoisseur of the regional and national talent scene. Youth director Gerd Treffer is enthusiastic: "With Max, we have found a top-class solution. It fits perfectly both professionally and personally."
Lunga, a native of Zimbabwe living in Hennef, began his playing career in Germany with Bonner SC, where he quickly made a name for himself as a goal scorer and fan favorite in the Regionalliga and Oberliga. His playing career also included stints at VfL Rheinbach and SSV Bornheim. He then gained his first coaching experience at the senior level, including at SV Wormersdorf and Fortuna Bonn, before moving to the youth department of FC Hennef in 2011.
There, he significantly shaped talent development for over a decade, led the U17 and U19 teams into the highest national leagues, and developed numerous players who are currently active in higher leagues. His credo is as simple as it is clear: "Train the boys and make them better footballers."
Ahrweiler BC is offering the experienced coach a new platform to continue his successful work. "The framework conditions are excellent," says Lunga. "I see the opportunity here not only to further develop players but also to be successful in sports. My goal is to bring talents up to the senior teams."
With the signing of Maxwell Lunga, Ahrweiler BC is sending a clear signal towards ambitious and sustainable youth development – a step far-sighted in both professional and strategic terms.
