Last Saturday, an exciting duel took place in the C Junior District League Mitte as FC Metternich II faced the U14 team of Ahrweiler BC. In an intense match, Ahrweiler BC emerged victorious with a narrow 3-2 (1-1) win.
The first half began with an early deficit for the U14s after a misunderstanding in build-up play, which led to a 0-1 score (4th minute). Nevertheless, the ABC youngsters fought their way back into the game and scored two goals shortly before halftime. Benjamin Megow (31st minute) and Paul Curth (35th minute) were the scorers who achieved the equalizer and the lead.
Even after the break, Ahrweiler BC showed no weakness. With an eye for his teammate, Erlis Hetemi assisted Simon Gros, who confidently scored to make it 1-3 in the 40th minute. Although FC Metternich II scored another goal from a free kick in the 50th minute, Ahrweiler BC managed to hold on for the narrow win.
The game was characterized by many petty fouls and interruptions, leading to a total of seven yellow cards, five of which were shown to Ahrweiler BC.
With this 14th win of the season, Coach Fabian Lorca's U14 solidifies their fifth place in the Bezirksliga. The next game takes place next Saturday, when the U14 plays at home against the ninth-placed team JSG Mosel-Hunsrück Burgen.
