++U17 LOSES 3:1 AT THIRD PLACE TEAM – TACTICS THROWN OUT EARLY++

The U17 team of Ahrweiler BC lost 3-1 (1-0) on Friday evening on matchday 19 of the Bezirksliga away to third-placed FC Rot-Weiß Koblenz II, and thus remains in ninth place, close to a relegation spot, with the team coached by Karl Heinz Classen currently having a three-point lead over it. 😞⚽

"Stay clean at the back for as long as possible," was Classen's instruction before the game. That worked too – until the 3rd minute of play! A positional error in defense allowed the home team a comfortable entry into a match, into which the U17 quickly found themselves playing and missed one or two scoring opportunities before the halftime whistle.

The start of the second 40 minutes was again disastrous. The team from the Deutsches Eck took a 2-0 lead (42nd minute) through a penalty kick shortly after the second half began. By bringing in two additional offensive players, ABC was able to create chances again, but only Max Matschall (63rd minute) stood out as a scorer against the overall confident and accurate Red-Whites. They nipped the rising hope in the Ahrweiler BC camp in the bud with another goal (72nd minute) after a counterattack.

Even though more would have been possible, the hosts' victory was ultimately deserved. What remains is the hope that similar performances from the ABC as on Friday evening will be rewarded in the future, especially against teams in the lower half of the table. 💪👏

This coming weekend, the U17 will host fourth-placed FC Plaidt. The away match ended in a 1-1 draw. 🏟️⚽
