In the shadow of the water tower in Engers, the Ahrweiler BC once again showed what distinguishes them in this summer preparation on Saturday: clarity in play, courage in tempo, precision in the moment of finishing. Against the Oberliga team FV Engers, managed by former ABC coaches Julian Feit and Martin Weber, the Rheinlandliga team took an early lead through Mohannad Saed, before Engers equalized.
However, after the break, there was half an hour that coach Mike Wunderlich described as "outstanding." Ümit Kuzu scored after fine lead-up play by Nam-Ju Lee, who had also set up the ABC's first goal. Markus Pazurek (file photo) converted a free kick directly before Kuzu scored again to make it 1-4 after a backheel pass from Almir Porca. Engers managed a goal for cosmetic purposes. Wunderlich and Rodriguez saw a team that was not just gathering results, but also confidence. "It only counts when the season begins, but we're taking this good and positive feeling into the upcoming tasks," said Wunderlich.
On Wednesday, the test will be at FC Blau-Weiß Friesdorf, before on Saturday the runner-up of the Mittelrheinliga, SSV Merten, awaits. The ABC is quietly but determinedly preparing for a season that could be more than just a promise.
